Looking for a simple, fun, and delicious activity to enjoy in the Pesach kitchen?
This recipe works well for all ages. Younger children can help break the matzah and sprinkle toppings, while older ones can take the lead with a bit of supervision. The result is a crunchy, chocolatey treat that transforms plain matzah into something rich and irresistible.
What You’ll Need
Oven
Baking tray
Baking paper (parchment)
Saucepan
Spoon or spatula
Adult supervision is recommended for handling the hot caramel.
Ingredients
4–6 sheets of matzah
100g butter or margarine
100g brown sugar
150g chocolate (milk, dark, or a mix)
Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan).
Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Arrange the matzah in a single layer on the tray, breaking pieces if necessary to fit.
Make the caramel:
Place the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan.
Heat gently, stirring until melted and combined.
Let it bubble for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
Pour the caramel over the matzah, spreading it evenly.
Bake for 8–10 minutes. The caramel should be bubbling.
Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate over the top. Wait a minute or two for it to melt, then spread it evenly.
Let the toffee cool completely, then break into pieces.
Optional Finishing Touches
Sprinkle a pinch of flaky salt for a sweet-and-salty twist.
Add sprinkles, mini marshmallows, or crushed candies for a colourful, playful version.
Try nuts, coconut, or dried fruit for extra texture and flavour.
