Korach - video sermon

When a Rabbi and Rabbinical student go on holiday they speak about... exactly what you'd expect them to speak about!

So great to share some Torah here from the fabulous @sofia_freudenstein

When Cain kills Hevel, his blood "cries out" from the earth, which has consumed it. When people behave immorally, the Torah says the earth will expel (literally vomit out) people from it. And in this week's Parasha, Korach, the earth opens its mouth and swallows those who challenge Moshe’s leadership.

My corner of the Jewish world doesn't often speak about the earth as a living, breathing entity which demands respectful human inhabitants, perhaps because it starts to feel like pantheism or Gaia goddess worship. But here it is in our texts - the earth is an agent in its own right, sometimes refusing to tolerate bad behaviour.

What can WE do to better respect the earth we live on - environmentally yes, but also socially and morally? After all, we are but her guests.
