Tisha b'Av 2024

Kehillat Nashira marked a very atmospheric and moving Tisha b'Av. We started with our biggest garden Eicha reading. One participant wrote:

"Last night I heard Eicha read for the first time ever and it had so much meaning. Two poems were read out, written by survivors; one from Kibbutz Nachal Oz and one from Kibbutz Kfar Azza with such striking parallels to what's in Eicha. We sat on the grass with yahrzeit candles and the whole atmosphere brought out the sadness of the present situation."

The following day, we learnt the Torah of mourning from rabbinical student Sarah-Beth Neville, then met Rabba Anat Sharbat who has run kabbalat Shabbat and Havdallah from Hostage Square in Tel Aviv weekly since October 7th.

Then we crafted mosaics, bringing together broken shards of glass into beautiful creations - a metaphor for the transition between Tisha b'Av and the year beyond.

Look out for Rabbi Miriam's Instagram video on this theme which went live at the end of Tisha b'Av.
