This week’s video sermon invites us into a conversation between Rabbi Miriam and her friend and Yeshivat Maharat scholar, Sarah-Beth Neville. Together, they reflect on Parashat Chukat, exploring one of the Torah’s most difficult moments: when Moshe strikes the rock instead of speaking to it.
In her Instagram caption, Rabbi Miriam writes:
"We might be able to understand the language and use of violence in the first generation of Israelites after the Exodus, but a higher standard is expected of a generation born in freedom. They are asked to use words instead, and when Moshe fails in this regard, it's the biggest and most inexcusable error of his life.
"The lessons @sarah_beth_nev share continue to resonate today in a world filled with violence, when so often words and dialogue should be used instead. "
