About the event
We are honoured to be hosting Darshanit Dr Miram Udel. Â Miriam Udel is associate professor of German Studies and Judith London Evans Director of the Tam Institute of Jewish Studies at Emory University, where her teaching focuses on Yiddish language, literature, and culture. She holds an AB in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and a PhD in Comparative Literature, both from Harvard University. She was ordained in 2019 as part of the first cohort of the Executive Ordination Track at Yeshivat Maharat, a program designed to bring qualified mid-career women into the Orthodox Jewish rabbinate.
Miriam Udel will be speaking to us twice.  In our service, she will give the drasha (sermon), on the topic of horticural laws in connection to our relationship with the divine. At 5pm, family Lorie will host a longer session, starting with Miriam Udel's perspective on the American campus protests, and her experience of co-hosting a University-based discussion circle for Muslim and Jewish women over the past six months. Miriam Udel will then take us deeper into the topic of her morning drasha.
