When Esther and Mordechai formulated the Purim laws for future times, they stipulated gifts for the needy - "matanot l'evyonim" for this simple reason: there can be no complete community celebration if parts of society lack basic necessities. Matanot l'evyonim is often an afterthought on Purim, but this year, Kehillat Nashira is proud to be bringing it to the forefront. The Rambam said we should spend as much on matanot l'evyonim as on mishloach manot (gifts for friends). So we invite you to be generous with your support and with your time. Let's make sure some local folks have the basics they need to take care of themselves and their families - toothbrushes and paste, shampoo, toilet paper, soap, and more.
